Oncor's 2007 Report on Energy Efficiency Progress

on Monday, December 31, 2007

Oncor reported energy efficiency program results for 2007 to the Public Utility Commission of Texas on Thursday, May 1, citing an overall reduction in peak demand of 89,233 kilowatts and a total energy savings of 216,371,490 kilowatt hours.

  • The peak demand reduction represented a slight decrease from 92,000 kilowatts reported in 2006.
  • Energy savings overall increased in 2007, up from a total of 159,472,243 kilowatt hours in 2006.

Put in perspective, last year’s total energy savings could run almost 13,000 homes in the Oncor service area for one year.

“I’m pleased at the performance of new pilot programs targeting schools and municipal buildings, Texas Schools Conserving Resources (SCORE) and CitySmart, that contributed to the success of the commercial area of our outreach, as well as the continued exemplary performance of our residential and small commercial programs,” said Mike Stockard, Oncor director of energy efficiency programs.

“Oncor is just getting started. Last year was the kickoff of Oncor’s Take A Load Off, Texas SM campaign to raise energy efficiency awareness among consumers in Oncor’s service area.

  • In 2008, the Take A Load Off, Texas campaign will be in constant motion, visiting with service area residents in 11 cities through local partnerships with retailers and at special events.”
  • Since the Oncor energy efficiency program began in 2002, Oncor has helped lower peak demand by 538 megawatts and reduced the amount of electricity used by service area residents by 1,284,000 megawatt hours.
  • Overall, this is enough electricity to operate approximately 75,500 homes in the Oncor service area for one year.
  • In 2007, programs to assist residential and small commercial customers represented 61 percent of total energy savings or 131,921,671 kilowatt hours, while commercial programs saved 39 percent or 84,449,819 kilowatt hours.

Consumer programs target service area residents on fixed and low incomes, homeowners and small businesses.

Commercial programs assist large businesses, schools and government offices with energy conservation efforts.

Stockard anticipates adding seven new programs in 2008 to help reduce growth in kilowatt demand across the Oncor service area by at least 15 percent.

“Oncor is committed to helping lower demand on the Texas grid by 90 megawatts this year,” Stockard said.

Oncor will invest an additional $100 million through 2012 to develop new energy efficiency programs that will encourage conservation and reduce anticipated growth in demand for electricity .

  • “Oncor runs the largest energy efficiency program in the state, and we plan to remain a state leader in this area,” said Stockard.
  • “Energy efficiency is an important step to developing energy independence nationally and for managing the assets that Oncor owns and operates in Texas. Texas is a growing state, which means demand for electricity.
  • Oncor’s investment in energy efficiency programs clearly shows the company’s commitment to continuing to deliver safe and reliable electric service.”

Oncor is a regulated electric distribution and transmission business that uses superior asset management skills to provide reliable electricity delivery to consumers.

Oncor operates the largest distribution and transmission system in Texas, providing power to 3 million electric delivery points over more than 102,000 miles of distribution and 14,000 miles of transmission lines.

While Oncor is a subsidiary of EFH, Oncor is a separate entity that reports to a separate board that is comprised of a majority of independent directors. Information about Oncor can be obtained by going directly to http://www.oncor.com/
